Sweet Science
Flores Boxing Gym started in the 70’s with
the supervision of Paciano ‘Noy Pacing’ Flores who’s a Cebuano Boxing Legend in
the Philippines. He began training amateur boxers in his residence at Mandaue
City, Cebu, Philippines. Noy Pacing is known to be the unrecognized hero of
Cebu boxing, a maker of champions and legends. He shaped Cebu boxing into what
it is today doing his work behind the ropes. When he passed away on March 2004
due to a cardiac arrest, the boxing gym
was passed on to his son Brix Flores who is a bronze medalist at the 1986-
Asian Games in South Korea.
At the present, the boxing gym, despite the lack of equipment most of the Filipino boxers that came from the Southern Philippines train here for free to find their luck in the sport. These boxers train hard to prepare themselves for amateur fights even with no fee, just to show their boxing skills inside the ring so to be recognized by boxing promoters and get the chance to fight on a professional bout. The boxers wish to play in these bouts as they would earn 1000 pesos in every round. Just like Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao himself he fought to raise his family from poverty. These young men hope to become like him someday and bring honor to our country as they live up to what Pacman said: “I came from nothing into something and I owe everything to God.”
