It was a rough start, with a professional boxing record of 1 win and 13 losses, for a 25 year old boxer as he recalled his fights in the ring. But Gerpaul Valero, from Mandaue City in Cebu became even more motivated to make boxing as a living as he came from a poor family. At 12, Gerpaul joined different amateur boxing events to earn for his studies and support his family's daily needs.
Passion for boxing and survival from poverty were his determination. At age 14, he did not mind losing the fight as he earns 100 pesos if he lost while 150 pesos for every victory. In 2011, Gerpaul finally found his luck when he became the Super Flyweight Champion at 115lbs in a reality game show Buhay Boksingero. International boxing career then opened its doors for Gerpaul in 2014 when he fight in Thailand, 2016 in Australia and even went to Japan in 2015 to train other boxers as a sparring partner.
Gerpaul recently holds a record of 21 wins and 18 losses under his long time trainer Brix Flores. In 2015, he became the Asia Boxing Federation Super Flyweight Champion. As he continue to strive in his career, he also trains young boxers believing that boxing will always be part of his life.
