Mahiga Creek is one of the larger creeks in Metro Cebu, Philippines that often overflows during heavy rains.
Nearly 200 houses, mostly made up of light materials, were demolished. Home owners hurled stones and bottles at the demolition team and police to prevent them from entering the area.
A resident was hit by a stone and had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Firetrucks were deployed in the area to control the Mahayag residents, who, despite earlier notices of the demolition, stood firm on their decision not to abandon their houses.
